Genus Philyra

Leach, 1817

Carapace subglobular. Dorsal surface with hepatic region forming a rhomboidal facet behind the orbit. Lateral and posterior margins marked with a continuous beaded line. Front broad. Buccal cavern transversely broad, owing to the enormous width of afferent branchial channels and of the exopodites. Third maxillipeds: exopodite extremely broad, foliaceous, with the outer and anterior borders forming a continuous semicircular curve. Chelipeds not so long, robust. (Guinot 1998)

Type species: Leucosia globulosus Bosc, 1802, a subjective junior synonym of Cancer globus Fabricius, 1775, by subsequent designation by H. Milne Edwards, 1837.
Gender feminine.
