Crab often pilumnid-like. Carapace rounded, nearly oval. Dorsal surface with setae. Antero-lateral margins never divided in lobes, generally armed with spines, sometimes only tubercles. Antennae with flagellum not completely excluded from the orbital hiatus, which is left open; basal article broad and very short, not in contact with the front. Chelipeds quite asymmetrical; palm very high and swollen, covered with studded granules. Ambulatory legs rather stout, covered with setae. G2 usually long. (Guinot 1998)
