Carapace broad. Dorsal surface feebly convex both longitudinally and transversely; regions delimited but smooth. Antero-lateral margins armed either with five acute spines, or with numerous claw-shaped teeth of which five are larger, or with seven procurved spines. Frontal margin nearly half the greatest breadth of carapace, laminar, more or less developed in front of the supraorbital angles. Antennules folded transversely. Antennal flagellum excluded from the orbit. Buccal cavern hardly elongated. Chelipeds a little unequal, rather long, very massive, smooth; fingers very stout, spoon-shaped, like horse's hoof.
