Subfamilia Plagusiinae

Carapace subcircular, sometimes disk-like. Front cut into lobes or teeth by the antennular fossae, which are visible in dorsal view as deep clefts. Lower border of the orbit curving down into line with the prominent anterior border of the buccal cavern. Antennal flagellum short. Third maxillipeds not completely closing the buccal cavern, but not leaving a rhomboidal gap, and without a hairy crest; exopodite slender and exposed, without flagellum; merus without an oblique hairy ridge; palp articulating near the antero-external angle of the merus. Male abdomen covering the whole space between the last pair of legs. (Guinot 1998)
