Subfamilia Euxanthinae

Carapace xanthoid-shaped. Dorsal surface strongly areolated and convex. Antero-lateral margins convex, poorly indicated behind the exorbital angles, noticeably separated from the postero-lateral ones that are concave. Front projecting, bilobed. Antennules folded transversely.
Sometimes presence of subhepatic cavities that may or may not open on the erased part of the antero-lateral margins. Chelipeds subequal; carpus, palm and fingers coaptated with corresponding parts of the carapace. Ambulatory legs with a similar coaptation, folded into strong cavities of the postero-lateral margins of the carapace. Thoracic sternum generally grooved longitudinally. (Guinot 1998)
