Carapace broad, transversely ovoid. Dorsal surface a little flattened transversely; regions and subregions of the carapace usually poorly defined, covered with granules. Antero-lateral margins well arched, divided into broad, rounded lobes or with lobes and teeth, the latter never pointed. Front broad, medially notched. Chelipeds: propodus markedly elongated; fingers with tips slightly hollowed but not spoon-shaped. Ambulatory legs more or less depressed. Male abdomen with third to fifth segments fused.
