Genus Pinnotheres

Small symbiotic crabs, usually living as commensals. Carapace subcircular, with rounded angles. Dorsal surface with regions poorly defined. Front, orbits and eyes minute. Third maxillipeds elongate, with ischium and merus indistinguishably fused; propodus longer than carpus; dactylus subterminal, inserted at or near the base of ventral margin of propodus, styliform, apex not extending to end of propodus. Ambulatory legs not fringed dorsally and ventrally with long setae; propodus not expanded distally in female; dactyli subequal and similar, falcate. Male telson almost as long as broad.
