Genus Goneplax

Carapace subquadrate, more or less strongly convergent posteriorly; its anterior border entirely occupied by the square-cut front and orbits; outer surface smooth. Antero-lateral border with or without a tooth behind the exorbital tooth; otherwise smooth and unarmed. Front generally broad. Orbits long and narrow, trenched to accommodate the elongate eyestalks; corneal region sometimes globular, club-shaped. Antennules and antenna folded transversely. Buccal cavern square cut and completely closed by third maxillipeds. Third maxillipeds operculiform. Often a part of sternite 8 visible between the coxae of P5 and the abdomen. (Guinot 1998)

Type species: Cancer angulatus Pennant, 1777, a subjective junior synonym of Cancer rhomboides Linnaeus, 1758, by monotypy.
