Genus Eriphia

Latreille, 1816

Body thick. Carapace almost quadrilateral. Dorsal surface very little convex or flat, anteriorly tuberculated, sometimes tomentose. Antero-lateral margins slightly curved, much shorter than postero-lateral, spinate. Fronto-orbital border extremely broad, nearly two thirds the greatest width of carapace. Front broad, bilobed, strongly deflexed, cut into two lobes, the outer part of each largely in contact with a broad prolongation of the infraorbital plate. Antennules fold transversely. Antennae with flagellum completely excluded from the orbital hiatus, which is entirely closed. Orbits deep and suboval. Endostomial crests strong. Chelipeds unequal in both sexes, massive; fingers stout, pointed, not hollowed. Male abdomen with all segments distinct. G2 long. (Guinot 1998)

Type species: Cancer spinifrons Herbst, 1785, a subjective junior synonym of Cancer verrucosus Forskål, 1775, by selection by H. Milne Edwards, 1842.
