Genus Baptozius

Alcock, 1898

Carapace oval in outline, broad, moderately convex fore and aft, without any indication of regions. Front very broad, obliquely deflexed, cut into four shaped-edged teeth. Antennal article 2+3 massive; flagellum lodged beneath the front and quite outside the orbit wall. Endostomial crests very strong. A deep emargination in the foliaceous opercular process of first maxilliped forming a permanent orifice on the anterior angles of the buccal cavern. Chelipeds unequal in both sexes, fairly massive; fingers pointed. Abdomen with all segments distinct. (Guinot 1998)
