Subfamilia Trapeziinae

Carapace subquadrilateral, pentagonal or transversely oval in outline, generally dorso-ventrally flattened. Dorsal surface naked and smooth, without traces of regions, or finely granular and with the regions feebly indicated, granular or smooth. Front almost straight, and with four lobes or teeth, sometimes finely denticulated, or with only two lobes. Crests of endostome defining efferent channels well developed. Third maxillipeds with the merus shorter than the ischium but not much broader than long. Chelipeds slightly unequal, with the palm surfaces smooth or finely granular. Commensal crabs associated with corals. (Guinot 1998)
