Carapace a little broader than long, with distinct tubercles; front with 4 teeth; antero-lateral borders of carapace with 5 teeth, of which the last one is directed laterally. Basal antennal article narrow, flagellum not separated from orbita. Fifth pereiopods natatorial, with flattened propodus and dactylus. Male abdomen with segments III-V fused. (Türkay 1995)
Portunidae with eyestalks of normal length; carapace with tubercles; relatively broad (length 0.55-0.7 times breadth including last tooth), not convex in both directions; 5 or 6 antero-lateral teeth; without ridge of granules on posterior branchial regions; basal joint of second antenna broad; chelipeds and legs both long, one pair of legs as long as chelipeds; carapace relatively narrow; last legs typical swimming paddles, dactyl oval.
