Genus Lissocarcinus

Adams & White, 1849

Carapace as long as broad or broader than long, surface smooth, in some species with transverse lines; front with median indentation, which is sometimes missing; antero-lateral borders usually with 5 teeth or lobes, only in one (non-Japanese) species undentate behind exorbital tooth. Flagellum of antenna excluded from orbit. Chelipeds short, only a little longer than ambulatory legs. Dactylus of fifth pereiopod paddle-shaped, thus limb natatorial, however, neither propodus nor dactylus of subcircular shape. (Türkay 1995)

Carapace relatively narrow, subcircular to subovate; front may be convex but not markedly projecting; chelipeds and legs both short; fifth legs not turned back dorsally over carapace, dactylus of fifth legs paddle-shaped. (Davie 1999)
