On the dorsal surface of the carapace no linea homolica and no distinct horizontal grooves; no "human face" visible. Epistome very developed, forming a kind of "neck". Male abdomen narrower than the thoracic sternum. Third maxilliped suboperculiform. Female abdomen with segments 4-6 fused into cupped plate; often a brood cavity. Ambulatory legs extremely long and slender. P5 reduced in size, dorsal, either with a small terminal apparatus, or with the dactylus not closing against propodal spinules and usually trailing.
