Helice tientsinensis

Carapace subquadrate, strongly convex. Surface pitted, with some scattered bristles in anterior regions. Regions distinct. Front slightly deflected, sinuous medially. Dorsal orbital margin slightly convex at the middle. Infraorbital crest of the male with its middle portion expanded and crenulated into 5-6 smooth ridges, the inner portion with indication of 10-15 faint granules, the outer portion with about 13-29 rounded tubercles, decreasing in size toward the outer margin. Antero-lateral margin of the carapace quadridentate; the first tooth with its outer margin bent somewhat obliquely inwards; the second is smaller and triangular; the third small and acute; the fourth rudimentary, a long obliquely straight granulated line extending from it inwards.
Chelipeds larger in the male than in the female. Merus with a musical crest on the distal portion of its ventral inner border. Palm very high, smooth, its dorsal margin cristate. Propodus of the first ambulatory leg pubescent on its anterior surface, that of the second scarcely pubescent or almost naked.
First pleopod of the male with its distal end directed dorsally inwards, the chitinous process angle-shaped. Abdomen of the male with its sixth segment strongly convergent distally; telson somewhat oblong in shape. Telson of female rounded and large. Carapace length of the male 26.5 mm, breadth 32.4 mm; of the female, length 21.5 mm, breadth 27.1 mm. (Dai & Yang, 1991)

Type locality: Tianjin, China.
Range: Korea - Koje-do (Sakai, 1936, 1976), west coast (Kamita, 1936), Daeheugsan Island, Bi-geum Island, Daecheon, Anmyeon Island, and Seondu Ri (Kim, 1973); China - Tianjin (Rathbun, 1931, Sakai K. & Yatsuzuka, 1980), Liaodong Peninsula, Bo Hai, and Shandong Peninsula (Shen, 1932), Dairen (Sakai, 1939), Xiamen (Shen, 1940b), Luta (Sakai, 1976a), Guangdong, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Shandong Peninsula, Bohai Bay and Liaodong Peninsula (Dai & Yang, 1991); muddy estuary.
