Actumnus obesus

Dana, 1852

The carapace is strongly convex fore and aft as well as from side to side; the surface is well areolated, those areolae being thickly studded with granules; the interregional furrows are densely filled with thick short tomentum, while the granulated areolae are provided with longer simple setae; the front is produced in the middle and cut into two lobes by a rather deep, narrow median sinus. The supraorbital border is also fringed with granules and bears two deep notches laterally.
The antero-lateral border is arched and cut into four acute teeth; the first granulated tooth is confluent with the external orbital angle; in the female the second and third teeth bear each a main spine anteriorly and some accessory spinules but in the male the accessory spinules are small and granuliform; the hindmost is topped only with a stout short spine. The postero-lateral dorsal surface is strongly concave for the reception of the last ambulatory leg.
The chelipeds are short, stout and unequal. The outer surface of the carpus and palm are covered with stout conical granules of good size interspaced with a short tomentum, those granules on the smaller cheliped being sharper than those on the larger one. The fingers are very short and stout; the immovable one bears a prominent tuft of hairs and some accessory hairs each on the outer and inner surfaces; the tips of the fingers are bluntly pointed. The ambulatory legs are short, stout and covered with tomenta, being bordered with longish setae or hairs. The male abdomen is rather wide, occupying the whole surface of the sternum.
