Parthenope calappoides

Adams & White, 1848

Carapace slightly broader than long, each region somewhat convex and covered with granules, the granules along the middle line larger; 1 on the gastric region, 3 on the cardiac region of which the median one is the larger; 3 on inner side of the branchial region, of which the anterior 2 set side by side, posterior one smaller. Both sides of gastric region depressed, both sides of anterior portion of the cardiac region with a depression, from which a longitudinal groove extends backwards. Lateral margin of hepatic region somewhat arched; 2 notches situated between orbital and hepatic regions and between hepatic and branchial regions respectively. Lateral margin of branchial region arched and serrated. Postero-lateral margin with 5 serrations, of which two are larger than the rest. Front deflected vertically, its anterior margin divided into 2 teeth by a median notch; lateral margin convex and smooth, sometimes produced and dentiform. Dorsal margin of orbit convex, but concave in the median.
Chelipeds asymmetrical, the major one about 1.7 times as long as the carapace in the female, twice as long as in the male. Merus with granules in the distal portion of the dorsal surface, anterior margin prominent, in the median and posterior margin a row of serrations. Carpus with a dentiform process on the dorsal surface and granulated on the outer surface. Dorsal surface of palm sometimes granulated, outer margin with 2 obtuse teeth and inner margin serrated; ventral surface covered with granules. Merus of first to third ambulatory legs finely serrated along anterior and posterior margins. Merus of the last leg with 2 larger serrations at the base of the posterior margin. Carpus and propodus each with a bluntly round projection on the anterior margin, the latter armed with 3 teeth of various sizes along the posterior margin as well.
Male abdomen narrow and elongate, telson triangular. Female abdomen larger, telson also triangular. Carapace length of male 13.5 mm, breadth 15 mm; of the female, length 14.5 mm, breadth 18 mm.
