Carapace elongate-globose. Dorsal surface with cervical and cardio-branchial grooves well defined. Orbit represented by a small postocular spine. Eyes quite unconcealed. Interantennular septum very narrow. Antennular flagellum rudimentary, fold nearly vertically. Antennae small but well developed. Buccal cavern of enormous size, oval in outline and completely closed by the enormous foliaceous convex third maxillipeds. Third maxillipeds: exopodite slender and entirely concealed, without flagellum; palp articulating with the antero-external angle of the merus. Chelipeds elongate and slender; fingers bent. Ambulatory legs compressed; P1 the longest. No membranous spaces (tympana) on the meri of ambulatory legs or on the sternum. Male abdomen with all segments distinct, resembling that of the female; its base covering the entire part of the sternum. Female openings sternal. Male openings sternal. (Guinot 1998)
