Genus Eumedonus

H. Milne Edwards, 1834

Carapace pentagonal. Dorsal surface with the regions well defined. Surfaces of carapace, chelipeds and ambulatory legs covered with numerous flattened granules, sometimes squamous or tall. Surface of carapace usually pubescent between granulate areas. Antero- and postero-lateral margins clearly demarcated by distinct angle or sharp tooth. Rostrum long or relatively short. Chelipeds granulose; chela short, stout; outer surface of palm usually with distinct lamelliform crests in females; fingers sometimes carinate. Ambulatory legs: upper border of merus and carpus distinctly cristate; that of propodus slightly cristate. (Guinot 1998)
