Carapace squarish to round. Dorsal surface with the regions well defined or obscure. Antero-lateral margins entire or armed with 2-4 teeth or lobes. Antennules large, fold obliquely. Antennae not well developed; basal article large, occupying orbital hiatus but movable. Third maxillipeds quadrate; exopodite with well developed flagellum. Ambulatory legs with special dactylo-propodal articulation. Thoracic sternum broad. Male and female abdomens with all segments distinct. Female openings sternal. Male openings coxal. G1 slender, sinuous. G2 very short, sigmoid. (Guinot 1998)
