Genus Carupa

Carapace broader than long, surface smooth and glabrous; front quadrilobate, sometimes faintly so; antero-lateral borders with 7 teeth or lobes. Basal antennal joint narrow or broad, flagellum in any case not excluded from orbit. Chelipeds stout, palm swollen and glabrous. Pereiopods 2-4 slender and relatively long. Propodus and dactylus of fifth pereiopod flattened, natatorial. Segments III-V of male abdomen fused. (Türkay 1995)

Portunidae with eyestalks of normal length; carapace broad (transversely elliptical) and convex in both directions; antennal flagellum lies in orbital hiatus; seven antero-lateral teeth, sixth the largest; arm and wrist of chelipeds bearing spines. (Davie 1999)
