Carapace well calcified, flat and sculptured. Front subtriangular. Lateral margin clearly delimited dorsally and ventrally, and frontal supraorbital margin half as long as carapace width. Orbit continuous to antennal cavity; infraorbital lobe located at middle and attached to ocular- and antennal cavities. Supra and inferior orbital margin distinct.
Outer orbital tooth distinct. Ocular peduncle movable, short, running transversally. Antennae remarkable and robust; 1st article of antennule movable, 2-3 articles forming a large plate. Endostome shortly advanced.
Lateral margin of buccal cavity elongate, reaching antennal 2-3 articles.
Third maxilliped tightly attached to lateral margin of buccal cavity; Maxillipeds 1-3 exopodite with normal flagellum. Third maxilliped exopod tapering, very long, reaching distal margin of merus; palp of distal margin of merus depressed dorso-ventrally. Second maxilliped propodus terminated. Chelipeds equal. P2-3 similar, without setae, not ornamented; dactylus compressed. P4-5 similar; P5 ischium twice length of P4 ischium. P4-5 reduced, however coxae normal in form; dactyli deflexed to lateral surfaces of propodi. Abdominal cavity obscurely engraved. Female abdomen consists of 7 equal segment; 1 abdominal segment covering P5 coxae.
In Genkaia and Lonchodactylus female Pl 1 vestigial, uniramous, inserted under Pl 1. In Phyllotymolinum female Pl 1 absent. Pl 2-5 biramous; Pl 5 very short, bearing no eggs. Uropods absent in male and female. Male abdomen of 7 segments (after Tavares, 1998)
