Carapace convex, smooth, its anterior margin 1.5 times as long as carapace itself. Cervical groove with a slightly depressed trace. Between gastric and cardiac regions an H-shaped groove, extending laterally backwards. Front narrow, dorsal surface with a short fine groove. Dorsal-orbital border smooth, inner part blunt, outer part concave. Outerorbital angle acutely triangular, directed laterally forwards, with a short ridge laterally. Antero-lateral margin rounded, posterior margin slightly concave at the middle.
Merus of the large chela of the male with the distal end of its inner border acutely triangular. Carpus with fine vesiculous granules. Palm as long as high, with vesiculous granules on its outer surface. The immovable finger with a C-shaped groove at its base and a longitudinal groove extending inwards, its inner border concave at the base, the distal half straight or with a shallow depression, distal end semicircular or angular; outer surface of the movable finger smooth, 1.4-1.6 times as long as the palm, inner border nearly straight, with a rounded tooth at the base, sometimes with a tooth at its middle or distal end. Merus of the ambulatory legs broad and compressed; the last pair slender, 3.1 times as long as broad.
First pleopod with a broad chitinous process, inner lobe distinctly produced and finger-like. Abdomen elongate; the sixth segment 2.3 times as broad as long; telson transverse ovate, 1.6 times as broad as high. Abdomen of the female rounded; the sixth segment 4.4 times as broad as long; telson transversely ovate, 1.6 times as broad as long, basal four-fifths of the sixth segment sinuated. Carapace length of the male 9.3-18.8 mm, breadth 13.9-28.1 mm; of the female, length 9.9-15.8 mm, breadth 19.9-23.4 mm. (Dai & Yang, 1991)

Type locality: Hong Kong.
Range: China - Hong Kong, near Xiamen and Tsimei (Crane, 1975), Guangxi, Guangdong including Hainan Island, and Fujian (Dai & Yang, 1991); Taiwan - (Dai & Yang, 1991), Tan-shui (Crane, 1975).
