Typhlocarcinus nudus

Carapace broader than long, squarish; surface convex, smooth. With a H-shaped groove between the cardiac and the intestinal regions. Front slightly convex, anterior margin concave in the middle and divided into 2 lobes; surface of the frontal region with a longitudinal groove, extended backwards and continuous with an arrow-headed impression on the gastro-cardiac region. Distance between the outerorbital angles subequal to two-fifths the breadth of the carapace. Orbit small, eye-peduncle short. Buccal frame gradually broadening backwards. Merus of the third maxillipeds square, with its outer-distal angle bluntly round. Antero-lateral margin arched, divided into 3 lobes by 2 shallow depressions and furnished with long hairs. Postero-lateral margins parallel. Posterior margin broad, substraight.
Chelipeds slightly asymmetrical. Merus shortly triquetrous. Carpus with its inner-distal angle triangular and furnished with a patch of down. Palm flattened, as long as high; dorsal and ventral margins crested. Fingers flattened and armed with various-sized triangular teeth along the inner margins; the movable finger with a row of tomentosa on the dorsal margin. Ambulatory legs slender and elongate, and furnished with a long pubescence along the margin of every joint; dactylus of the last leg bar-like, with distal half slightly turned upwards. Female abdomen oval and 7-segmented. Carapace length of the female 5.5 mm, breadth 8.1 mm. (Dai & Yang, 1991)

Range: Japan - Osaka Bay (Sakai, 1955a, 1976), off Matsuyama, Seto Inland Sea (Takeda et al., 2000); China - Jiaozhou Bay (Shen, 1937), Hong Kong (Stimpson, 1858b); Singapore; Indonesia - Makassar and Ceram (Tesch, 1918b); 35-50 m.
