Heteroplax nitida

Miers, 1879

Carapace is subquadrilateral but its side margins are markedly convergent posteriorly; the dorsal surface is quite smooth and convex from before backwards. The front is relatively narrow, being one third the extreme width of the carapace, its free margin slightly sinuate but not at all marked by the median notch or groove. Preorbital angle is somewhat well marked; a rudimentary fissure on the upper orbital border near the base of the eyestalk; infraorbital border is extremely sinuate and concave below the position of the cornea. The antero-lateral border is armed with two teeth, of which the anterior one is obtusely pointed; no granules on the basal surface of these teeth unlike nagasakiensis. The eyestalks are long, somewhat like those of the subfamily Goneplacinae, but the cornea is only weakly swollen.
Arm has the upper border crested but unarmed; wrist and palm are swollen, the former has a tooth at inner angle, the latter has the upper inner border weakly cristate. The dactylus of the last ambulatory legs is flattened and recurved. (T. Sakai, 1939: 560)
