Portunus pubescens

Carapace moderately broad (breadth about 1.63 times length); surface covered with a short dense pubescence, microscopic granulation below that; with continuous bow-shaped mesogastric, epibranchial, and metagastric ridges; front with 4 bluntly rounded lobes, outer pair slightly larger than inner one; antero-lateral borders with 9 teeth, last one distinctly longer and stouter than the preceeding ones, projecting slightly forward; postero-lateral junction rounded. Cheliped merus with postero-distal border smooth, anterior border with 3 spines; carpus with 2 outer spines, a carina on the upper surface, terminating in a spiniform process and the usual 2 spines at hand articulation; upper border of palm with 2 distal spines, lower surface granular. Posterior border of swimming leg without spines or spinules. (Türkay 1995)

Postero-lateral junction of carapace rounded; antero-external angle of merus of third maxilliped not produced laterally; carapace not very broad, breadth less than twice length; no stridulating apparatus on undersurface of carapace; mesogastric area of carapace bearing 2 separate transverse ridges; postero-lateral area of carapace without 2 pale spots outlined in brown; male pleopod smoothly curved.
