Subgenus Thalassuca

Antero-lateral margins short to absent. Postero-lateral facets not sharply defined, without postero-lateral facets and carinae. Front narrow. Eyestalks slender. Chelipeds: outer surface of palm rough, thickly covered with moderate to large tubercles; fingers of major cheliped depressed and broad. (Guinot 1998)

This subgenus is considered equivalent to Gelasimus Latreille, 1817 (after Rosenberg, 2001).

Type species: Cancer tetragonon Herbst, 1790.
