Subgenus Celuca

Crane, 1975

Very small to moderate-sized Uca. Carapace profile generally strongly arched and sometimes fully semicylindrical. Front moderate to wide. Antero-lateral margins always varying from short to long, always posteriorly angled, not curving. Lateral margins of carapace more or less convergent. Eyestalks of moderate length and diametre, not nearly filling orbits. Chelipeds: outer surface of palm smooth or with small granules, except sometimes near upper margin; fingers not broad. (Guinot 1998)

This subgenus is largely equivalent to Bott's Leptuca, which is certainly paraphyletic and quite possibly polyphyletic. If the Indo-West Pacific species are placed in their own subgenus, it would be called Austruca. (after Rosenberg, 2001)

Species treated:
Uca annulipes (H. Milne Edwards, 1837)
Uca lactea (de Haan, 1835)
Uca perplexa (H. Milne Edwards, 1852)
Uca triangularis (A. Milne Edwards, 1873)
