Genus Neosarmatium

Carapace sub-quadrate, greatest width behind exorbital angles; breadth greater than length; antero-lateral margins with 0-2 teeth behind external orbital angle; front moderately to strongly deflexed, with broad median concavity, postfrontal lobes distinct; orbital hiatus open; pterygostomial regions with well developed reticulation of intercrossing lines of setae. Basal segment of antennal peduncle with well developed outer tongue-like lobe. Interantennular septum relatively narrow. Chelipeds subequal, large and robust; carpus with inner angle slightly produced; upper surface of palm usually, but not always, defined anteriorly by swollen longitudinal ridge, without pectinate crests; dorsal surface of dactyl usually bearing spines. Ambulatory legs of medium length, flattened and broad. (Türkay 1995)
