Genus Acmaeopleura

Stimpson, 1858

Carapace oval in outline. Dorsal surface moderately or strongly convex, sometimes depressed, regions ill-defined. Margins well defined by a ridge. Antero-lateral margins entire, without teeth; exorbital angles obtusely rounded. Presence of a suborbital crest. Front about one-fourth breadth of carapace, its anterior margin truncate in dorsal view but broadly triangulate in ventral view. Orbits deep. Third maxillipeds completely closing the buccal cavern; exopodite narrower than the ischium; ischium and merus distinctly broader than long; the suture between merus and ischium not oblique; palp articulating at the middle of the anterior border of merus. Chelipeds symmetrical, sometimes with a patch of hairs in inner proximal portion of fingers; fingers short. Ambulatory legs broad and stout; propodi very short; dactyli nearly straight.
