Genus Pachygrapsus

Randall, 1840

Carapace slightly broader than long, quadrate. Dorsal surface; regions not well defined; fine oblique lines on the anterior half and the branchial regions. Antero-lateral margins acute, with one or two teeth, but sometimes none, behind the exorbital angle. Front broad, quadrilobate. Antennae not excluded from the orbit. A rhomboidal gap between the third maxillipeds. Merus of third maxilliped shorter than ischium; palp articulating on the anterior border of merus, nearer the outer external angle than the inner angle. Chelipeds either subequal or unequal, much more massive than the legs. Ambulatory legs broad and compressed. Male abdomen covering the whole space between the last pairs of legs. (Guinot 1998)
