Genus Metopograpsus

H. Milne Edwards, 1853

Carapace quadrate, slightly broader than long, its regions not well defined, cervical groove distinct, branchial region with distinct obliquely transverse ridges; antero-lateral borders entire or armed with one small tooth behind the acute exorbital angle; front very broad, clearly more than half breadth of carapace, 4 postfrontal lobes. Interantennular septum broad. Suborbital border deeply notched near external orbital angle. Antennae excluded from orbit by the inner suborbital tooth. Ischium of third maxillipeds longer than merus, exopodite with a long flagellum. Chelipeds subequal or unequal, more robust than the ambulatory legs; carpus with one or two teeth at inner angle; palm and fingers short and stout; finger tips spoon-shaped. (Türkay 1995)
