Genus Geograpsus

Stimpson, 1858

Carapace quadrilateral, slightly broader than long, its regions fairly well defined, cervical groove indistinct, branchial region with regular obliquely transverse ridges; antero-lateral borders armed with one tooth behind the acute exorbital angle; front breadth less than half breadth of carapace, 4 postfrontal lobes. Interantennular septum broad. Suborbital border deeply notched near external orbital angle. Merus of third maxillipeds longer than broad, with some transverse ridges on its outer surface, exopodite without or with very strongly reduced flagellum. Chelipeds subequal, more massive than the ambulatory legs; carpus with a short tooth at inner angle; palm and fingers short and stout; finger tips pointed. (Türkay 1995)

Type species: Grapsus lividus H. Milne Edwards, 1837, by subsequent designation by Rathbun, 1918.
