Genus Camatopsis

Alcock & Anderson, 1899

Carapace deep, rudely sub-semicircular, hardly broader than long, strongly convex fore and aft, declivous anteriorly. Dorsal surface with regions indistinct; only two longitudinal grooves hardly visible, that mark off the epibranchial regions. Antero-lateral margins short, entire, sharp. Front considerably less than a fourth the greatest breadth of the carapace. Orbits large, deep and normally cut in the anterior margin of the carapace. Eyestalks large, tumid, conical, almost immovably fixed in the orbits. Eyes reduced to a speck of pigment. Antennulary fossae small and filled entirely by the basal article, to the complete exclusion of the large flagellum. Basal antennal article small, the flagellum large and considerably longer than the orbit. Buccal cavern anteriorly broadened, almost entirely closed by the third maxillipeds. Third maxillipeds with the merus as long as and markedly broader than the ischium; antero-external border of merus convex; palp jointed to the antero-internal angle of the merus. Chelipeds subequal, moderately massive. Ambulatory legs rather stout and long; dactyli sharply trigonal and plumose, on P5 slightly curved and compressed. (Guinot 1998)
