Genus Speocarcinus

Stimpson, 1858

Carapace subcylindrical. Antero-lateral margins arcuate, dentate; teeth small. Fronto-orbital border three-fifths of the entire width of the carapace. Eyestalks small, filling the orbits. Antennules transverse. Antennal basal article scarcely reaching the front; flagellum in the orbital hiatus. Epistome narrow, except at the middle. Buccal cavern strongly widened anteriorly. Third maxillipeds gaping; merus as long as broad, its antero-external angle produced. Chelipeds moderately unequal, much stronger than the legs. Ambulatory legs with the dactyli sharp; dactyli of P5 curved upwards. (Guinot 1998)
