Carapace more or less broad, transversely oval. Dorsal surface with regions obscurely marked, smooth or rough. Antero-lateral margins long, strongly arched, not crested, divided into lobes which are not well or deeply separated. Front broad, cut into four teeth or lobes. Antennae with basal article broadly in contact with front. Chelipeds unequal; fingers long, pointed but dactylus of the smaller cheliped not elongate, shorter than the palm. (Guinot 1998)
