Carapace moderately broad, hexagonal. Dorsal surface convex; regions well defined and to a certain extent subdivided, with nodosities. Antero-lateral margins crest-like, thin, on a lower plane that the rest of carapace, crenellate or dentate, ending in a more or less developed horizontal epibranchial spine. Front horizontal, prominent, laminar, more or less sinuous or lobate. Antennules fold obliquely. Endostomial ridges absent. Chelipeds sometimes strongly unequal; heterochely and heterodonty; sexual dimorphism often very pronounced; fingers sharp-pointed. Ambulatory legs rather short. Male abdomen with all segment distinct. G1 sinuous, recurved, of the pilumnid type. G2 short. (Guinot 1998)
