Genus Hepatoporus

Carapace much broader than long, subpentagonal in outline. A subhepatic cavity clearly defined, with its opening forming a strong concavity in the antero-lateral margins of the carapace which are continued posteriorly by a large convex lobe. At the junction of the carpus and propodus of the chelipeds presence of a cavity which is united with the subhepatic cavity when the chelipeds are folded against the carapace. Then, presence of a two cavities, forming together a single ovoid one aside the carapace. Orbit almost complete; upper fissure closed. Front projecting obtusely. (Guinot 1998)
