Genus Carpilius

Leach, 1823

Carapace broad, transversely oval. Dorsal surface very convex in both directions, with regions not indicated, smooth and naked. Antero-lateral margins very arched, thick, entire, with only a prominent epibranchial tubercle at the junction with the strongly convergent postero-lateral margins. Front moderately broad, deflexed, three-lobed. Orbital margins entire. Basal antennal article long, running up into an oblique cleft between the margin of the front and the infraorbital plate; antennal flagellum very small and lodged in the cleft. Chelipeds unequal in both sexes, smooth and naked; fingers bluntly pointed. Ambulatory legs long, subcylindrical, smooth and naked. (Guinot 1998)
