Genus Catoptrus

A. Milne Edwards, 1870

Carapace broader than long, surface smooth, microscopically punctate; front divided into 2 subtruncate lobes, sometimes faintly so; antero-lateral borders with 6 teeth. Basal antennal joint narrow, flagellum not excluded from orbit. Antero-external angle of third maxilliped rounded. Chelipeds stout, palm swollen and glabrous. Pereiopods 2-4 slender. Propodus and dactylus of fifth pereiopod not flattened, gressorial. Segments III-V of male abdomen fused. (Türkay 1995)

Portunidae with eyestalks of normal length; carapace broad (transversely elliptical) and convex in both directions; antennal flagellum lies in orbital hiatus; antero-lateral border of carapace entire or bearing at most 6 teeth; merus of third maxilliped strongly produced at antero-external angle.
