Genus Trachycarcinus

Faxon, 1893

Carapace oval to subpentagonal, its surface either covered with a velvety tomentum or with only scattered short bristles; lateral borders with spines or teeth; front three spined. Basal antennal segment without a projection filling the orbital hiatus. Chelipeds and ambulatory legs spinulous or unarmed. Chelipeds of both sides dissimilar (heterochelous) in males, in that sex much heavier than subsequent ambulatory legs. All joints of these last ones stout. (Türkay 1995)
