Macrophthalmus boteltobagoe

(Sakai, 1939)

Carapace surface smooth; front deflexed, not constricted between bases of ocular peduncles, with smooth margins, clearly bilobed distally, median furrow deep; lateral margins subparallel, 3 well defined antero-lateral teeth. Ocular peduncles short and stout, cornea almost extending to tip of external orbital angle. Central region of epistome excavated. Merus of third maxilliped subequal to ischium. Merus of male cheliped with a short horny ridge (musical crest) near inner margin; palm short, outer face smooth, inner face with thinly scattered small granules, without hair or spines; immovable finger slightly deflexed, cutting edge proximally with a long, low crenulated tooth formed by linear series of large granules, pointed granules in distal half; cutting edge of dactylus proximally with a small quadrangular tooth, distally with a row of granules. Meri of ambulatory legs with few hairs along upper margin. (Türkay 1995)

Type locality: Lan-Yü, Taiwan.
Range: Japan - Yaeyama Islets in the southern Ryukyu Islands; Taiwan - Lan-Yü Island (Sakai, 1939, 1976, Lin, 1949); China - Hong Kong (Davie, 1992); Western New Guinea - Biak Island (Serène, 1973).
