Goneplax nipponensis

Yokoya, 1933

Carapace broadest at the exorbital teeth, moderately convex antero-posteriorly. Surface smooth. Antero-lateral border without tooth behind the exorbital tooth. Front distinctly wider than one fourth of carapace, truncated, rather concave. Upper orbital margin a little sinuated. Corneal part of eye not specially swollen. Chelipeds of moderate size, subequal and smooth; merus not exceeding far beyond lateral border of carapace with a minute spine situated a little behind the middle of posterior border; carpus rounded at internal angle; palm moderately compressed, as long as fingers. Ambulatory legs: merus of P2-P4 devoid of a distal spine on upper margin. (Guinot 1998)

Type locality: Japan - Suruga Bay, Omae-zaki, south of Koshiki-jima, north of Goto-retto, and east of Mishima, off Yamaguchi Pref.; not appointed by Yokoya.
Range: Japan - Suruga Bay, Omae-zaki, south of Koshiki-jima, north of Goto-retto, and east of Mishima, off Yamaguchi Pref. (Yokoya, 1933), Tsushima Strait (Takeda, 1973c), Suruga Bay, Koshiki-jima, Goto-retto, Tsuyazaki, Mishima, and near Nagasaki (Sakai, 1976a); East China Sea (Takeda & Miyake, 1968c); 51-132 m.
