Carapace vase-shaped, longer than broad, widest posterior to midlength, deflected anteriorly, with irregular depression flanking mesogastric region, latter slightly inflated; pterygostomial region not fused to carapace. Third maxilliped with exopod, merus without distolateral projection. Anterior extension of sternite of first pereiopod with tubercles, sternite of fourth pereiopods lacking suture. Cutting edge of dactylus of chela entire. Merus of second pereiopod with distomesial projection; coxae of third and fourth pereiopods with well-developed anterior lobes. (Türkay 1995)
Type species: Troglocarcinus monodi Fize & Serène, 1955a, a subjective junior synonym of Cryptochirus hongkongensis Shen, 1936 (see Kropp, 1988), by original designation.
