Carapace transversely oblong, subquadrangular, strongly calcified. Surface dorsally flattened posteriorly; anterior third deflexed; the regions faintly indicated. Antero-lateral angles rounded. Front between a third and a fourth the greatest breadth of the carapace, its edge only deflexed, not directly united to the epistome. Orbits circular, small. Eyestalks short. Eyes small. Antennules fold a little obliquely. Buccal cavern broadish, quadrilateral. Third maxillipeds large; ischium distinct; merus very large; palp about as large as the merus and ischium combined, articulating at the antero-external angle of the merus; propodus large; dactylus large and spatulate, attached near end of distal margin of preceeding; exopodite small, partly concealed. Chelipeds equal, short, much stouter than the legs. Ambulatory legs coarse, diminishing in size from P2 to P5, which is very small. Male abdomen with the telson long and narrow, spatulate at its extremity which reaches the buccal cavity. (Guinot 1998)
