Genus Quadrella

Dana, 1851

Carapace slightly broader than long, with an hexagonal outline. Surface smooth or finely granular. Lateral margins having an angle furnished with an epibranchial spine, separating the antero-lateral from the postero-lateral margins, that are slightly longer. Posterior margin straight and shorter than the front. Front divided into four teeth or two projecting lobes and separated by a large antennal furrow from the supero-internal orbital angles that may be indicated by a spine. A strong spine, often dorsally visible, at the internal infraorbital angles. Orbits large and shallow, not hiding most of the eyes. Chelipeds slightly unequal and dissimilar; size and ornamentation of the merus varying along the species. Ambulatory legs generally thin; merus of P4 about four times longer than broad; dactylus denticulate. Commensal crabs associated with corals. (Guinot 1998)
