(de Haan, 1835)
The carapace of this species is more convex than in Hemigrapsus sanguineus, more markedly depressed on hepatic and postero-lateral borders. The three antero-lateral teeth are broadish and the postero-lateral facet well defined. The front is just half as broad as the carapace, and its free margin usually sinuate in the middle position. The chela of male has a patch of soft hairs on inner and outer surfaces near the base of the fingers; in female and juvenile male, the chela is devoid of hairs. (T. Sakai, 1939: 673)
