Pilumnus ransoni

Dorsal surface of the carapace not areolated, minutely granular only on the sides, elsewhere smooth. Pubescence of short and spaced setae, longer and plumose on the frontal region. Antero-lateral margins short, much shorter than the postero-lateral ones. Exorbital angle with a small spine. Three antero-lateral spines, a little curved forwards. Subhepatic region covered with small tubercles, becoming acute near the lateral borders. Frontal margin only a little convex, with a median notch. Infraorbital margin with about seven spinules. In males larger cheliped much more stronger than the smaller; palm swollen, its outer surface with sparse pointed granules on the superior half, elsewhere smooth; palm of the small cheliped covered with tubercles on the whole outer surface. Ambulatory legs slender; superior margin of the merus armed with a distal spinule; in addition, on P2-P4, a subdistal spinule, and on P2 several other spinules; on P3 only one spinule visible; carpus of P2-P5 with a distal spinule. Type locality: Tahiti.
Range: Japan - Ishigaki-jima, Okinawa (Takeda & Miyake, 1968a); Sulu Archipelago - Sirum Id. (Garth & Kim, 1983); Tahiti (Forest & Guinot, 1961).
