Carapace with three pairs of gastric ridges, epibranchial ridge interrupted by cervical groove and medially, median cardiac and mesobranchial ridges rounded and less obvious than the first ones; front with 2 broad lobes, separated by a notch; 4 or 5 antero-lateral teeth, fifth, if present, of very variable size. Basal antennal joint with an acute ridge, whose edge is formed of 7-12 fused tubercles. Upper surface of cheliped palm usually with 1 spine on outer 2 spines on inner side, sometimes an additional one at distal end of either side; inner face smooth. Posterior border of propodus of swimming leg with 5-8 large and 1-2 small spines. Male first pleopod with very slightly flared tip; inner surface with 2 series of stout bristles, one counting about 14, the other 4-8; outer surface with 18-20 stout bristles. (Türkay 1995)
Front 2-lobed; tips of chelipeds pointed, not spoon-shaped; basal antennal joint granular or tubercular; 5 antero-lateral teeth, 4th tooth rudimentary; mesobranchial ridges present, but lateral mesobranchials not present; male first pleopod with tip neither flared nor recurved, male first pleopod with 8 or more stout recurved bristles on one side, and about 4 to 6 on the other.
