Portunus granulatus

(H. Milne Edwards, 1834)

Carapace narrow (breadth about 1.5 times length); surface with close-packed granular areas with a fine pubescence among the granules; regions well recognizable on denuded specimens; front with 2 broad, reasonably sharp lateral lobes, and a central confluent lobular area without clear lobes; antero-lateral borders with 9 teeth, last one slightly most protruding; postero-lateral junction rounded. Antero-external angle of merus of third maxillipeds markedly produced into a lobe. Chelipeds elongate, propodus nearly as long as merus; merus with 2 spines at posterior border, anterior border with spines set among spiniform granules; carpus with 2 spines; upper surface of palm with 1 distal spine, lower surface smooth. Posterior border of swimming leg with the usual fringing hairs. (Türkay 1995)

Postero-lateral junction of carapace rounded; antero-external angle of merus of third maxilliped strongly produced laterally; last antero-lateral tooth only slightly larger or smaller than other teeth; carapace relatively narrow, with granular patches almost covering entire surface; last antero-lateral tooth slightly the largest; male pleopod very stout with widely flared tip. (Davie 1999)
